2021-22 Annual Report

You help us change lives...

The opening of the 2022-2023 school year has brought some exciting growth.  We are delighted to have had the opportunity to add a satellite site to our overall program, “Hill South,” located next to Cape Fear Academy.  Because we can now serve an additional 12 students at that location, our overall student population has grown from 52 to 64 students!

As we move forth with additional expansion plans, we are especially grateful for the financial support we have received from you in the past. We recognize, as we celebrate our twelfth year of operation, that our donors have had a transformative impact in allowing our School to prosper and grow.  And because we are in the early stages of further expansion, your continued support is more important than ever.

Once again, we are asking you to consider making a gift to the 2022-2023 Annual Fund. As you know, tuition does not cover all our annual expenses, and like most independent schools, we rely on donations to meet our budgetary needs. With that in mind, please support The Hill School at whatever level you are able. Or you can donate by going to hillschoolofwilmington.org/giving and clicking on the donate button at the bottom of the page.

A special thanks to those of you who supported our tremendously successful Oyster Roast and Ten-Year Toast. Please mark your calendars for our next Oyster Roast which will take place on Friday, March 10, 2023. We guarantee a repeat of all the fellowship and fun we had this year.  This event will take place again on the UNCW campus, complete with bushels of oysters, great food, beer, wine, and both silent and live auctions. We hope to see you there!

We change lives at The Hill School of Wilmington. Please support our efforts with your donation.

With appreciation,

Celebrating

What an Incredible Year!

At The Hill School we understand the importance of teaching students "the way they learn"

and why our mission is to empower children who have learning differences with the skills

needed to become confident, independent learners.

Our supporters understand the need for focused and differentiated learning and through their gracious contributions, we have continued to provide our students with quality programs and

highly-trained educators. Though the guidelines of the Covid-19 pandemic were ever-changing,

we continued to add activities and events as restrictions lifted. We celebrated Dyslexia

Awareness with the Dyslexia Dash in October, provided outreach programs through

virtual workshops, and in March were finally able to hold our anniversary celebration, the

Oyster Roast & Ten-Year Toast. This event, due to its remarkable success, has replaced

our biennial breakfast and will become an annual Hill School event. All of this could not have been achieved without the support of our donors, sponsors, and our incredible Board of Directors.

Thank you to all who contributed and continue to support our students -

it truly was an incredible year at Hill!

OUTREACH & EVENTS

In early 2022, as part of our Outreach Program, The Hill School held three Virtual Workshops which focused on Executive Function: "Why Can't You Get it Together," "Homework, What Homework," and "I Quit!"

Participants learned about
the skills our students find very difficult, such as planning, organizing, time management, task initiation, working memory, self-control, flexibility, and perseverance. Each workshop focused on a primary aspect of EF, including homework strategies, perseverance, and stamina.

Dyslexia Dash 2021

On Friday, October 29, The Hill School of Wilmington students and staff participated in the 2021 Virtual Dyslexia Dash.

The event was organized by the Georgia branch of the International Dyslexia Foundation.

Oyster Roast & Ten-Year Toast

After two years of planning, and two reschedulings due to Covid, The Hill School of Wilmington was finally able to celebrate a decade of educating and empowering students with LD and/or ADHD with their planned "Oyster Roast & Ten Year Toast".

The event, which took place on March 11, 2022, was held in the beautiful atrium of UNCW's Watson College of Education.

Looking Ahead

In response to a significant increase in our academic program, The Hill School of Wilmington announced the opening of a satellite location located at 4008 South College Road in Wilmington. The site includes three classrooms and accommodates up to 12 additional students. The program, which currently offers a morning session only, will follow the same half-day model where students receive direct instruction in reading, written language, and math, and spend the remainder of their day at a base school.
